Lemuel Haynes

Lemuel Haynes

Lemuel Haynes – was the first African-American pastor to be ordained by any North American denomination. His distinguished life began from the humblest of beginnings. He was born in 1753 and abandoned as an infant by his Anglo mother and African father.  He was brought to a Massachusetts farm where he worked as an indentured servant for David Rose.  He eventually went into the ministry and was a gifted preacher, trained in a tradition of sound doctrine, and anchored in the glory of God.  He saw himself as a torchbearer of the same truths passed down from the Reformers and Puritans before him.
