Immediately following the tragedy at World Trade Buildings on September 11, 2001 the vision of this memorial was birthed. The passage “You shall know the Truth and the Truth shall set you free” was repeated by myself over and over, This truth is recorded in John 8:32. It describes the freedom that one possesses in response to the Truth — the freedom to live a life to the glory of God through Jesus Christ, as we are instructed throughout the Word of God. -Pastor Chuck
This memorial is dedicated to the proclamation of truth. Truth in Jesus Christ and living it out daily. Secondly, freedom to Worship God in a land that is free to worship.
As a congregation, we have a unique location of high visibility along highway 88. Residents of our community along with travelers to South Lake Tahoe from Sacramento, or the Bay Area, are able to see and visibly be reminded of the need for Truth and the exercise of freedom — including the costs of that freedom.
Why three crosses?
The bible records that at the time of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ, he hung between two thieves. The two are representatives of humanity. Those that became repentant of their sin and need of a Savior, Jesus Christ and those that do not accept their need of the Savior and reject Him and Savior and Lord. Humanity is representative of these two thoughts.
Flags
Three flags are represented: United States of America, California State Flag, and the Christian Flag.
Memorial Plaques
Next to each flagpole is a large boulder baring granite markings that pay high tribute to three essential groups that have had and continue to have an impact on our ability to worship freely. These groups are; The military branches of the USA, the emergency services of the State of California, and those who have served their Lord Jesus Christ.
Memorial Walls
The outside face of the walls carry memorial plaques made of marble and engraved with names of loved ones with a message of dedication for all to read.
